Parpatakarishtam

Hedyotis-Parpatakarishtam

Parpatakarishtam is a liquid Ayurvedic medicine, used mainly in the treatment of anemia and liver disorders. It is also known as Parpatadyarishta.

Reference: Bhaishajya Ratnavali Pandu Rogadhikara 12/386

Parpadakarishtam dose: 
12 – 24 ml. one or two times a day, usually advised after food.
If needed, it can be mixed with equal quantity of water.

Classical Indication:

  • Udara – Ascites
  • Ashtilika Pandu – Anemia
  • Gulma – Abdominal tumor
  • Halimaka – chronic liver disease
  • Kamala – Jaundice
  • Yakrut Vruddhi – Hepatomegaly
  • Pleehavruddhi – Splenomegaly
  • Rakta vikara – Disorders due to imbalance of Pitta and vitiation of blood
  • Shotha – inflammatory conditions
  • Vishamajwara – chronic recurrent fever

Parpatakarishtam ingredients:

  • Parpataka – Hedyotis
  • corymbosa / Fumaria indica – 4.8 kg

It is added to 49.152 liters of water, boiled and reduced to 12.288 liters. Filtered.

This decoction is added with

  1. Jaggery – 9.6 kg
  2. Dhataki – Woodfordia fruticosa – 768 grams
    48 grams of each of
  3. Amruta – Tinospora cordifolia
  4. Mustaka – Cyperus rotundus
  5. Daruharidra – Berberis aristata
  6. Devadaru – Cedrus deodara
  7. Vyaghri – Solanum xanthocarpum
  8. Duralabha – Fagonia cretica / Alhagi pseudalhagi
  9. Chavya – Piper chaba
  10. Chitraka – Plumbago zeylanica
  11. Vidanga – Embelia ribes
  12. Trikatu – Pepper, long pepper and ginger

Fermentation period – 1 month or above.
